About
Aloha and welcome to Jungle Love 2010. Jungle Love was born by a group of friends who were involved with festivals near the beautiful Hawaiian village at Keanae. We all feel strongly that residents of Maui who are knowledgeable in the local culture and desiring to be Pono with the local community should be the ones to create this event. We also want the event to benefit our host, their community and the local population of Maui by supporting local not-for-profit organizations.
We are inspired to introduce a volunteer or “Seva” shift. In 2010, every Jungle Love attendee will also volunteer. We believe this act of service creates a more collaborative event. Seva is utilized during Sufi Camp (which also happens at Camp Kaenae), and requires all attendees to choose a two hour shift, whether it be chopping veggies, recycling, or clean up to contribute to the smooth running of the weekend. It is our experience that this adds a flavor of co-creation to the festival and brings about deeper connections between attendees.
The non-profit we selected for Jungle Love 2010 is the La’a Kea Foundation a sustainable farm community project for the adult special needs population of Maui. You can read more about this important community service organization at http://laakea.org/.
The Jungle Love Weekend will start on Friday March 19th and conclude on Spring Equinox Sunday March 21st 2010. There will be live musical performers and interactive workshops being offered by leaders in many different fields. There will be organic healthy meals, some of which will come from the garden we have been maintaining at Camp Kaenae. We had our first community garden day on Saturday, January 14th, and put in beautiful organic garden beds. Nearby are beautiful waterfalls for swimming and hiking and, of course, the ocean.
Musical performers include Shimshai, Felicia Rose, Don Diego, Singing Bear, Nahko, Divino, and more local bands to be announced. Some of the workshops being offered include Hawaiian conflict resolution techniques with Auntie Pua, Sufi Zikr dance with Leilah, Native American sweat lodge ceremony with Stuart Snake, Satang with Ram Dass (this is tenative and subject to change based on Ram Dass’s health), Discussions with Swami Chetananada, and Kirtan with Heather Neeraja. . There will be information tables present regarding the La‘a Kea Foundation as well as other local non profits. Jungle Love serves many purposes, including networking, raising awareness, education, healing, upliftment, and celebration!
We have already procured several sponsors for this event, and are currently looking for more. The 2009 event that many of us were involved in was very well attended and we are confident that we will not only have an amazing festival experience, but also be able to raise awareness and funds for a very worthy not-for-profit organization.
If you would like to be involved in any way, please contact us.
We celebrating with you in paradise this spring equinox!
